The social movement for gays began during a raid on Greenwich Village's stonewall. This occurred in 1969 and immediately following this incident, where many were arrested, the LGBTQ community rose up in anger. This was the starting point of the Gay Liberation Movement. Another similar, but worse, situation occurred in On another note, just 10 years later, the first occurrence of aids was reported in Haiti. This began the major issue that we face in the play, the AIDS Crisis. The situation began to really spiral out of control when the Crisis hit Canada in 1982. Just one year later, the United States reports 3,000 cases of AIDS and 1,000 deaths from this terrible disease. This horrible trend continues as the number of cases doubles one year later as well in 1994. With this many people being infected and dying, you would think that everyone would be scrambling to stop it, but they aren't. Throughout the span of this issue, the LGBTQ community held many meetings and rallies to try and gain attention, but it just wasn't working. After way too many of their own people had died, this community had to rise up and be more aggressive and violent to get their needed attention.
